Types of Craniosynostosis

Sagittal        Coronal        Metopic        Lambdoid

There are 5 sutures in an infant's skull - the sagittal, left and right coronal, metopic and lambdoid.  Each one will produce a distinctive head-shape when fused too early.  The majority of cases of craniosynostosis will include fusion of only one suture, however multiple fusions can occur, usually as part of a syndrome or other condition.  The treatment options will vary depending on type of cranio, age, severity and surgeon's preference.
